Aim Fills Crucial Recruiting Role

Aim Transportation Solutions, a family-owned and -operated provider of commercial trucks and transportation services for more than 50 years, welcomes Susan Baer to the role of director of recruiting. In this critical position, she will lead a team of talent acquisition specialists in hiring experienced, well-qualified individuals to ensure the continued success of Aim and its ability to meet the demands of its rapidly expanding and diverse customer base.

Susan brings with her an impressive and diverse background. It includes customer service, sales, leadership, training, community relations and, of course, recruiting. It’s exactly the kind of resume that promotes a think-outside-the-box approach, which is critical for taking on the challenges inherent to the transportation industry. Chief among those challenges will be tackling the national truck driver shortage, which is currently estimated at 80,000.

Beginning her career as a retail manager and buyer for a major department store in Pittsburgh, Susan sharpened her customer service skills, which she would continue to utilize no matter what path her career led her down.

From there, Susan pivoted to the pharmaceutical industry, working for Shire Pharmaceutical. During her four years there, she quickly reached the level of senior sales representative and field sales trainer, a position she excelled at. In fact, she so excelled at the position she was the top performer in entire the company.

In 2003, Susan briefly stepped back from the workforce to focus on raising her young family. However, her passion and motivation to work drew her into a part-time position for Barnes and Noble Bookseller. While there she moved into the position of Community Relations Manager for the district office and, in 2013, was awarded the Cranberry Township Business Leader of the Year Award.

Just prior to joining Aim, Susan, in 2015, jumped into the challenging yet rewarding field of recruiting, joining the Graham Healthcare Group (Celtic Healthcare) as a recruitment coordinator. There she found she not only had a passion for recruiting but a real knack for it too. She, for instance, was instrumental in the recruitment efforts for the inception of Allegheny Health Network Healthcare @ Home (Home Health and Hospice) in Pittsburgh. Again, Susan rocketed through the ranks, ending her time there overseeing recruitment efforts in four states as the director of talent acquisition.

“We believe Susan’s impressive skillset and well-rounded experience, along with her years of demonstrated drive, commitment and success, is exactly what’s needed to take on the unique challenges of recruiting in our industry,” said Scott Fleming, Aim co-president. “We have the utmost confidence she will lead our recruiting team and continue to find inventive ways of getting the message out there that Aim is a career destination with great pay, great benefits and a great culture.”

“I felt the Aim family culture as soon as I began meeting with the leadership team during the interview process,” Susan Baer said. “I knew immediately Aim was the kind of company I wanted to work for, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to lead Aim’s recruiting efforts and to support the company’s overall mission and commitment to its customers.”

“Being on the recruitment team is the greatest honor,” she added. “We get to change the lives of the new hire, their families as well as continue to grow the company from a talent perspective.”

Susan graduated from Ohio University with a degree in English. Whether aware of it or not, her recruitment career more than likely started when she was appointed to be the recruitment chairman of Pi Beta Phi (Ohio Alpha). Currently she lives in Seven Fields, PA, with her husband, Michael; her two sons, Adam and Ethan; and her golden retriever, Luna.
